Rudy Grijalva, 58, passed away at his home in Hayden on Monday, Sept. 21, 2009. He was born on December 31, 1950 to Enrique and Mary Grijalva in Santa Rita, New Mexico. He moved with his family to Arizona when he was six years old, making Hayden his lifelong home. He worked at Kennecott Copper Corp. until he joined the US Navy, where he served in Vietnam aboard the USS Constellation. When he returned home, he continued working with Kennecott and then with Asarco Ray Mines. He was an electrician, who worked tirelessly in his job and who was always willing to help his fellow workers. No one knew shovels and drills like he did. Rudy loved his Asarco family as much as his own family at home. He was also a long time member of the IBEW Local #518. Rudy was a musician who played the trumpet since he was in his high school band and, then, becoming a member of the band La Gente in the mid-1970s. They played at many weddings, quinceneras, and anniversaries all over Arizona. His favorite pastimes were playing pool, barbequing, gardening, watching the Green Bay Packers, and, most of all, listening and dancing to all of his Little Joe y La Familia CDs. Rudy is survived by his wife Genevieve, his son Steve, and his daughter Ariana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Enrique and Mary Grijalva; and his surviving siblings are Henry (Sandy) Grijalva of Glendale, Sylvia Grijalva of Phoenix, and David (Lillian) Grijalva of Phoenix. Services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with Father Dale A. Branson officiating, and interment was at Mountain View Cemetery in Hayden. See Also: Find A Grave |
