JEANETTE THOMPSON MUMMA
Aug. 24, 1914 - Aug. 21, 2009

Jeanette Thompson Mumma, 94, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly Portland, passed away Aug. 21, 2009. Jeanette, an only child, was born Aug. 24, 1914, in Astoria to Alfred and Jennie Thompson. She graduated from Astoria High School and attended the University of Oregon for three years. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.

Due to the Depression, she was forced to get a job in Portland as a secretary. She met her future husband, Van, there and they dated four years prior to getting married. He was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army. When he was transferred to Alaska, they lived in Anchorage for eight months before he was deployed overseas. Jeanette moved back to Portland where she was employed by New York Life Insurance Co.

After the war, Van and Jeanette were in the home construction business for 25 years until Van's retirement.

Jeanette is survived by her son, Richard; grandchildren, Ryan and Jason (Tina); great-grand-children, Allison and Austin; and niece, Shirley M. King.

She was predeceased by her husband, Van I. Mumma, on Dec. 29, 1991.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, in Evergreen Mortuary, North Oracle and West Miracle Mile, Tucson.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of service.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Tucson.
