The Arizona Daily Sun Flagstaff, Arizona Sunday, October 04, 2009 Victoriano Alonso, 80, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009. He was born Jan. 11, 1929, in Hontoria del Pinar, Spain. He arrived in the United States in 1962 and worked herding sheep in Nevada and then Arizona, where he made his home. He later worked construction, eventually starting his own masonry business, Alonso Stone Masonry, from which he retired. He loved his family, hunting, fishing, cutting wood and Cliff Castle Casino. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather and a friend to many. He will be missed dearly. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; daughter Rita (Tom) Murphy; son Victor (MaryAnn) Alonso Jr.; stepson Clay Phelan; stepdaughters Tessie Phelan and Cindy Gutierrez; brothers Tito of Flagstaff, Isidoro of California, Carmelo of Spain and Marcelino of Spain; sister Laurentina of Spain; seven grandchildren; his loyal companion, Buddy; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugenio Alonso; mother Felisa De Miguel; first wife Maria Martinez Alonso; and brothers Pablo, Lucio and Casimiro. A memorial Mass will be Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at noon at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 224 S. Kendrick, in Flagstaff. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
