Carolynn Marie Haggard, of Grandy, N.C., and formerly of Flagstaff, died Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, in a Norfolk, Va., hospital.

Mrs. Haggard was well traveled and leaves hundreds of treasured friendships from coast to coast. Her friends were an extended part of her family and each held a very special place in her heart.

She was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous, celebrating 29 years of sobriety. Next to her family and friends, she held this accomplishment closest to her heart. She was a gifted counselor and believed that the life of each person was precious and that all people have a tremendous capacity for love and accomplishment. She believed that a heart filled with gratitude will never be filled with disappointment.

She was the adored daughter of Carol Christmas and Douglas Randolph Brown, best friend and loving companion of Joe William Haggard for 53 wonderful years, deeply loved by her seven children and their families, Ann Marie and Nathan Borges, Audie Ahn Haggard and Paul Sullivan, Julie, Ed, Allison and McKenzie Short, John Haggard and David Defries, Kelly Haggard, Dennis and Hunter Newbern, Laura, Don, Tara and Brooke Onnen, Bobby, Joseph, River and Benjamin Haggard; and cherished by her sister, Barbara Wilburn, and her family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Outer Banks Hotline, New Horizons or Mickey's House. A memorial will be held at a later date. Contact julie.short@netzero.com for more information.
