Corey, Janet Anne
A Celebration of the life of Janet Anne Corey was held at Kilgore Chapel of Valley Presbyterian Church in Paradise Valley on October 13, 2008. Born in Chicago Illinois on May 8, 1940, Janet departed this life at Lifecare of Scottsdale on July 20, 2008.

She had resided at Westminster Village and formerly lived in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Sedona, Western Springs, Ill and Chicago. In her words, "I'm thankful for the friends who take me to church, to grocery store, to symphony. I'm thankful for the minister who has tried to find people to help me get around, for the friendships ..., that with proper care and quiet I can get my blood pressure down ... for the beautiful music available to me." Janet's life was an inspiration to her many friends, acquaintances and physicians. Despite years of chronic, debilitating illnesses, she persevered, fought and overcame disabilities. Raised in Western Springs, Illinois, she graduated from North Central College. Her career as an executive administrator led her to positions with Harris Trust in Chicago and Scottsdale.

Devoted to her late parents, Charles and Dorothy Corey, she moved to Arizona and cared for them and her Aunt Olive Gassaway during their elder years.

Faith in God and joy from classical music were Janet's life's delights. She joined Valley Presbyterian Church in 1986 and was active as a Deacon, in Circles and the Presbyterian Women. The Phoenix Symphony was her principal avocation for many years. She was President of the Friends of the Symphony, managed the Symphony Store and edited the Symphony Cookbook, Concert in Dining. She valued her many friendships, entertained in style, and enjoyed traveling throughout the world as her health permitted. She loved bunnies and her many friends showered her with bunny mementos.

Janet's family includes her cousins Haidee Stith (and husband Charlie) of Lexington, SC; Joan Berndt (and husband Bill) of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Aunt Anna Gassaway of South Hampton, Massachusetts, Kingsbury cousins and second cousins Evelyn Stith and Ron Berndt. Her last days were surrounded with tender care from the staff of Lifecare of Scottsdale and visits from her loving friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: KBAQ, 2323 W. 14th Street, Tempe, AZ, 85281 Or The Epilepsy Foundation, 4351 Garden Drive, Suite 500, Landover, MD 20785
