The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona April 1, 2003 Jeannine D. Chilleen passed away on March 29th, 2003 after 94 wonderful years. She was born January 25th, 1909 in Montreal Quebec, Canada and moved to the United States with her family when she was 9 years old. She lived and worked in Chicago, ILL where she met and married her husband of 59 years, Dolf, who preceded her in death in 1993. She moved to Phoenix in 1947 living in a house that her husband built on North 19th avenue in Phoenix. After Dolf's death she lived with her son Edouard, his wife Maria, and their son Christopher in Cave Creek. Jeannine was a past president of the Insurance Woman of Phoenix, one of the founders of Girls Ranch, Past President of Soroptomist International, and heavily involved in Big Sisters of Arizona. She was also inducted into the Insurance Women Hall of Fame and was the past president of Plus 50. After retiring from The Hartford Insurance Company she owned and operated Pioneer insurance agency, in Phoenix, until she finally retired at the age of 66. Words cannot describe the effect that this lady had on all those she came in contact with. She was always the first one to give to her family and friends and her renown as a cook made a visit to her home in Phoenix, or later to her summer home in Dewey, a treat that no one could pass up. Jeannine could whip up a dinner for 12 people in 30 minutes and make it seem as though she had been cooking all day long. Her home was always a joy to visit and none of us will ever forget those wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners and that great smell of the turkey cooking as you walked through the front door. Her pot roast was a work of art and she made it seem so simple. She is survived by her son Edouard his wife Maria, her stepsons, Donald and Richard, and her grandchildren Scott, Robyn, Christopher, Nancy, Donna, Laura, Cyd and numerous great-grandchildren. Her mind was sharp and her wit was with her to the end. After 94 years her body simply said, "It is time to move on to a better place". A celebration of her life party was held on April 17th, 2003, which would have been her 70th wedding anniversary of her marriage to Dolf. The celebration was held at The Satisfied Frog Restaurant at 6245 E. Cave Creek Road in the town of Cave Creek. |
