Virgil John Pollard

Virgil John Pollard, 64, of Palo Verde, passed away on Aug. 12, 2009 of natural causes, while raking leaves, at Palo Verde Rod and Gun Club.

He was born on Sept. 17, 1944 in Brawley, Calif. and moved to the Palo Verde Valley in 1954.

He graduated from Palo Verde High School in 1964 and joined the United State Marine Corps the same year.

Virgil served in Vietnam as a Marine Corps Communication-Electronics Operator and was awarded multiple certificates and medals, including two presidential citations during his seven-year commitment.

He was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sgt.

Virgil moved around a lot, working as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver.

He returned to the Palo Verde Valley in 1980 and later settled down in Palo Verde where he worked at the Palo Verde Rod and Gun Club as the custodian and groundskeeper.

Virgil is survived by his mother, Mary E. Todd of Blythe; his uncle, Arnold Johnson of Portland, Ore.; step-sister, Linda Faulkner of Blythe; half-brothers, William E. Todd of Salida, Calif. and Steven R. Todd of Riverside, Calif.; half sister, Michell D. Wright of Blythe; and a daughter Danielle J. Pollard; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services and entombment will be held Sept. 4, 2009 at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside.
