The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, October 06, 2009 Archimandrite Gabriel (Cooke) fell asleep in the Lord on the morning of Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009. Fr. Gabriel was the former priest at St. George Orthodox Church (formerly the Eastern Orthodox Church of Prescott). A convert from Byzantine Rite Catholicism, he was ordained to the diaconate in 1986 at St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral, Brooklyn, N.Y. The following year he was ordained to the priesthood by His Eminence, Metropolitan Philip. He served in the Western Rite Vicariate of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America. In February 1996 he was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite by His Grace, Bishop Joseph of the Antiochian Archdiocese. On Nov. 22, 1997, Fr. Gabriel was tonsured as a stavrophore monk by His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman of the Orthodox Church in America. Fr. Gabriel had a B.A. in Philosophy and Psychology, a Masters in Theological Studies and Art History, and a Master of Divinity degree. The 40-day memorial will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at St. George Orthodox Church, 609 W. Gurley in Prescott, Ariz. May Fr. Gabriel's memory be eternal. Donations in memory of Fr.
