Carol J. Carothers passed away at the age of 86 on Oct. 1, 2009, at
the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Ariz. She was born Nov. 26, 1922, in
Prescott, Ariz., to Sydney and Lillian Markel. She was granddaughter
to Dr. Warren E. Day.

She graduated from Saint Joseph's Academy in Prescott, Ariz. She was
a lifelong member of the Catholic Church. For the past five months
she had been residing in a private care home, Desert Ridge Manor in
Paradise Valley. Her daughters, Margaret and Harriett, and her
granddaughter, Chelsy Averill, were fortunate to be with her as she
took her journey to join her husband of 62 years, Bob, and all those
other loved ones who were waiting for her. At Mayo Clinic she
received the last rites and passed away immediately thereafter.

Carol loved first and foremost her family - her world revolved
around where each one was and what they were doing at all times. We
will miss her questions, her curiosity and her love. Carol also
loved to cook and feed people; she was also known to be very busy
ALL THE TIME. In fact, even in the last stages of her illness, she
was keeping so busy that we were asked to hire more help. Harriett,
her youngest, also known as her "baby," volunteered to stay with her
two days each week. This gave Harriett and all who heard the stories
more insight into what a funny and quick-witted person Carol was.
She was able to make jokes and cause laughter with all those around
her. Her best friend, companion, co-conspirator, cat lover in
common, and favorite errand-runner was granddaughter Chelsy
Carothers Averill. Some of her favorite afternoons were spent with
the frequent visits she received from her grandson, Travis Averill.

Carol is survived by her seven children, Steven (Jamey), Kathleen
(Roger), Bobby (Bonnie), Connie (Dave), Margaret (George), Chris
(Ruth) and Harriett (Mike). Carol was blessed with 18 grandchildren
and 19 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her oldest
brother, George (Betty) Markel, sister-in-law Martha Markel, sister-
in-law Ruth Beck and her beloved cousins Bill Travis and Marsha
Piercefield. Carol was so appreciative of all the nursing care and
walks she enjoyed with her daughter Kathleen and all the handyman
services her son-in-law Roger provided.

Carol lived 86 years of her life in Prescott, Ariz., and loved the
pine trees and all the beautiful friends she has left behind.

The family will gather for an open house urn viewing between 10 a.m.
and noon Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at Hampton Funeral Home. You are
welcome to sign the guestbook, but there will be no services.

Mother, we can now think of you as the busiest angel in heaven. We
will always love you.

Hampton Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements. Please
