The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Thursday, October 01, 2009 Edward Matthews of Prescott, Ariz., passed away on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at the age of 80. He was born Sept. 1, 1929, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Edward and Alberta Matthews. Ed has joined his beloved wife of 22 years, Barbara. He is survived by his sisters, Patty (Mike) Kenny and Margie (Bill) Smith, brother John (Ann) Matthews and stepchildren Kim Holt, LeAnn Morgan, Kerry, Suzanne and Raymond Beresford. Ed was in the Air Force for 20 years, where he worked as a Senior Master Sergeant Air Force Radar Specialist. After retiring from the Air Force, Ed worked for the FAA across the country repairing radar sights and ended his career in Prescott, where he and Barbara retired. Ed enjoyed watching boxing and loved to watch his favorite football team, the Oakland Raiders. He had many friends in Prescott with whom he loved to socialize. Ed had a wonderful smile that warmed the hearts of everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by all of his friends and family, and especially by his very dear friend Brandy Schmitt. There will be a celebration of his life on Sunday, Oct. 4, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Celtic Crossings Pub at the Gateway Mall. Some people come into our lives and quickly go.
