Frances S. Chavez, 62, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at her home in Flagstaff surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Chavez was born Jan. 20, 1947, in Flagstaff.

After graduating from Flagstaff High School in 1965, she met the love of her life, Carlos Chavez. They moved to California for six years and returned to Flagstaff, where they raised their family. She enjoyed many activities such as dancing and traveling, although her favorite activity was preparing home-cooked meals. It was not uncommon for friends and family to leave her home with a good laugh and a full stomach. Her greatest joy was spending quality time with her grandchildren. She will be missed greatly.

Mrs. Chavez is survived by son Fernando Chavez (Melanie); daughters Angela Hanson (Ronald), Iris Chavez and Rosemary Martinez (Jayson); brothers Tony Sanchez and Ernie Sanchez; sisters Dora Boyk and Eva Diaz; along with 16 grandchildren; many nephews, nieces, cousins, brothers- and sisters-in-law; and many other friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Chavez; parents Manuel and Alfides Sanchez; and brother Raymond Sanchez.

A Holy Rosary and vigil service will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel, 224 S. Kendrick St., in Flagstaff. Viewing will begin Tuesday at 6 p.m. with a Rosary following at 7 p.m. The funeral Mass will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the chapel.
