Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, Arizona Thursday, September 03, 2009 Former Flagstaff resident Donald Lee Larson, 74, of Park Rapids, Minn., died Thursday, July 16, 2009, at Triumph Hospital in Fargo, N.D. Mr. Larson was born on Oct. 26, 1934, to Edward and Margaret (Bukowatz) Larson in La Crosse, Wis. He grew up and attended country school in the La Crosse area until moving to Walker, Minn., where his family resided on a home on Third Lake. Growing up, Mr. Larson enjoyed the outdoors -- especially when he could be hunting or fishing on the lake near his home. He graduated with the Park Rapids High School class of 1952. Following high school, Don gained employment with a box factory in Pengilly, Minn. He joined the U.S. National Guard on Nov. 10, 1953. He was honorably discharged from the National Guard in March 1960. He then gained employment for a contractor in Park Rapids working on the high lines. He then went on to work in the mines near Hoyt Lakes, Minn., where he worked for 30-plus years. He retired from the mines at the age of 61. Following his retirement, he moved back to Walker, where he resided at his family's Third Lake, Minn., home. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed watching movies from his movie collection. He moved to Park Rapids in 2004 and lived there until his death. Mr. Larson is survived by his brother, David of Park Rapids; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister Joanne; and brother Gary. A memorial service has been held. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Walker, Minn.
