Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, Arizona Friday, July 17, 2009 Robert "Roy" Hickman, 59, formerly of Flagstaff, died Thursday, June 25, 2009 in Meridian, Miss., from cancer. Mr. Hickman was born Nov. 7, 1950, in Flagstaff. He graduated from Flagstaff High School in 1968, where he was a star athlete in baseball. He was also an avid gardener. He served 20 years in the U.S. Navy and eventually became a chief petty officer. He also worked as a paper maker and barber. Survivors include his beloved wife, Hannah; children Tiffany Hickman and Brandon Hickman, both of Meridian, and Asya Hickman of Los Angeles; mother Katherine Hickman of Flagstaff; sisters Bobbie McNear (Ira), Addie Lewis, and Renee Brooks (Jonathan), all of Phoenix; Carol Ola (Ade) of Richmond, Va., Sandra McCoy (Charlie), Patricia Hickman and Sissie Hickman, all of Flagstaff; brothers Tim, James and Darrell, all of Flagstaff, Donnie (Briget) of Phoenix, and Ronnie (LaVena) of Greenville, S.C. Mr. Hickman also had five grandchildren and is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Sanders Hickman Sr., and brother Sanders Jr. Services were held at New Era Baptist Church in Meridian, with Dr. Robert L. Steele presiding. Enterprise Funeral Home handled arrangements. |
