Julianne S. (Shokley) Miller

Julianne S. Miller, 78, died July 15, 2009, at the Flagstaff Medical Center. She was born June 15, 1931, in Haynesville, La., and grew up mostly in Baton Rouge, La.

She graduated from Louisiana State University in 1952 with a bachelor's degree in arts and sciences. She was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. She worked from 1953 to 1957 as secretary in the Department of Army and from 1957 to 1959 in the office of Civilian Personnel in Washington, D.C. In 1959, she moved to Paris, France, and worked until 1961 as advisor in the USRO/Office of Defense.

On Nov. 3, 1961, she was married in Paris to Col. Lee Miller, who proceeded her in death in 1987. She and her husband spent two and a half years in Munich, Germany, where he was commander of the Southern Area Command. Upon returning to the States in 1966, they made their home in Flagstaff.

She was an avid arts and music lover and a longtime quilter.

She is survived by a brother, Dr. Thomas Shokley of Germantown, Tenn.; two nieces; and by many neighbors and friends. She will be greatly missed.
