Anthony J. George, August 11, 1928 - January 11, 2005 of Niagara Falls, an architect, died Tuesday in Niagara Rehabilitation Center after an illness of several months. He was 76.

Mr. George had cerebral palsy, which limited his mobility but did not keep him from leading an active life. As a child, he would bat in baseball, but friends and relatives would run the bases for him.

A native of Niagara Falls, he graduated from Niagara Falls High School. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in architecture from Arizona State University. In the early 1960s, he began practice as an architect in Tempe, Ariz. He returned here in the 1990s.

In 1949, he directed the winning Soapbox Derby race car in Niagara Falls that went on to compete in the national finals in Akron, Ohio. He was captain of the racing team and designed and oversaw the building of the car. Mr. George also enjoyed fishing and billiards and was active in the Boys Club of America.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Our Lady of Lebanon Catholic Church, 1120 Niagara St.

Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston.
