The Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, Arizona Saturday, April 26, 2008 Cora Francis Nimmons, 86, died Tuesday, April 23, 2008, at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas, Nev. Mrs. Nimmons was born in Las Vegas, N.M., to Frank and Marie Ettinger. She spent her early childhood years in Clarkdale until her father died in 1930. Cora and her mother returned to Las Vegas, N.M. She attended the University of Arizona in Tucson and New Mexico Highlands University, where she graduated. She met her husband, Robert Nimmons, in 1945, and they were married in 1946. After a brief stay in Michigan, they moved to Flagstaff. They remained in Flagstaff for 52 years, relocating to Las Vegas, Nev., in 2002. Mrs. Nimmons served as an elementary school teacher for many years at Nativity School, now St. Mary's Catholic School. After leaving the teaching field, she assisted her husband with the Arizona Elks Association Executive Director's Office. She was completely dedicated to her husband, her two children, their spouses and her three grandchildren. She loved celebrating events with her family and supporting them any way she could. She loved reading, exploring northern Arizona and family picnics in the forests of the San Francisco Peaks. She also loved music and the theater. In her later years, she attended the Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City, Utah, every summer. Mrs. Nimmons is survived by her son, Kim (Nancy) Nimmons of Huntington Beach, Calif.; daughter, Candy (Bruce) Birt of Las Vegas, Nev.; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and father and her husband, Robert. Her funeral will be Tuesday at 10 a.m., with burial immediately following in Bunkers Memory Gardens in Las Vegas, Nev. The family suggests donations be made to the Nathan Adelson Hospice in her memory. Bunkers Mortuary in Las Vegas, Nev., is handling the arrangements. |
