Myrl A. Courtright

Myrl A. Courtright, 89, of Paradise Valley, AZ died peacefully on Saturday, November 30th, 2002 after a long illness. Myrl was born June 3, 1913 in Stillwater, Oklahoma and grew up in Bristow, Oklahoma.

Myrl moved to St. Louis, Missouri as a manager for J.J. Newberry where he met his wife Emily, who worked there during high school. They were married on July 26, 1942 in St. Louis and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Paradise Valley. Myrl served in the Army, stationed in the Philippines during World War II. He was employed with Sears Roebuck and Co. for 35 years where he retired in Calgary as a Group Manager. Myrl and his family lived in the Midwest and moved to Canada in 1954 where he was a store manager for the newly formed Simpsons-Sears of Canada. His career with Simpsons-Sears took him to Toronto and then on to Calgary, Alberta where they lived for 16 years. While in Calgary, Myrl served as President of the Downtown Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow award recipient, and served with various civic and community organizations including, YMCA, Better Business Bureau, Calgary Stampede Associate Board, Calgary Tourist Bureau and Elder at Riverview United Church in Calgary. While living in Calgary, Myrl was a member of the Calgary Golf and Country Club, the Glencoe Club and the Petroleum Club. Myrl relaxed and enjoyed family and friends throughout the years at their log cabin in Bragg Creek, Alberta. The family enjoyed their horses as well as snow mobiling and riding through the foothills. His Bragg Creek home was his pride and joy where he kept several Arabian show horses.

After retirement, Myrl, Emily and Debbi, moved to Paradise Valley where they have lived since 1974. Myrl is survived by his wife of 60 years, Emily; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Tom Saine of Naperville, IL; son and daughter-in-law Dale and Carmel Courtright and their children Brett and Katy of Scottsdale, AZ daughter Debbi Courtright of Paradise Valley, AZ and his sister, Bea Brown of Yakima, Washington.

Memorial services were held on Wednesday, December 4th, 2002, in the sanctuary at Valley Presbyterian Church, 6947 E. McDonald, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Valley Presbyterian Memorial Fund. Published in the Arizona Republic on 12/4/2002.
