Kenneth Yackytooahnipah (Yackus), S/Sgt, USMC Retired, passed away March 12, 2003 in Chandler. He was born May 25, 1933 at the Lawton, Oklahoma Indian Hospital to Florence Mahseet Harry and Joe Yackytooahnipah and was a member of the Comanche Tribe. He attended elementary school in Walters, Oklahoma and Plainview High School in Wichita, Kansas. Kenneth served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 - 1974. He served in Korea from February 1953 through August 1954 and in Vietnam from 1966 through 1968. After retiring from the USMC, Kenneth worked in the education and health care fields and also volunteered his services and expertise to many organizations and associations in California and in Arizona. Kenneth is survived by his loving wife Misty; sons, Kelly (Bobbie) and Kennard (Lisa) both of California; daughters, Kimetha (Herb) Adson of Oklahoma and Tileta (Trent) Taylor of Colorado; and sister Beverly Chasenah of Oklahoma. Nine grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a lifetime of friends and relatives who have benefited from his wit, his amusing stories, and his special friendship also survive him. He will be truly missed. Visitation was on Sunday, March 16, 2003, at Tempe Mortuary, 405 E. Southern Ave., Tempe. Funeral services were Monday at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, 1735 S. College, Tempe. Interment with full military honors followed at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix. Tempe Mortuary handled arrangements.
