The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, May 3, 2006 Lucille J. Bennett, 96, died May 1,2006, in Prescott Valley. She was born Nina Lucille Jefferys on March 12, 1910, in Belington, W. Va. She attended West Virginia University and was a oneroom school teacher in the small mining town of Core. In 1935, she married Paul Hoff Bennett and the couple moved to Colorado where they raised their family, primarily in the city of Boulder. In 1956 they moved to Tempe, Ariz. For many years, she was a job counselor for the Arizona State Employment Service and also for a private agency. She then joined First National Bank as a credit card authorizer. Following retirement, she volunteered at the Tempe St. Luke's Hospital, where she was named "Volunteer of the Year" in 1994. Lucille moved to Willow Wind Residence in Prescott in 2000 and continued to lead a full and active life for over 5 years. Her outgoing personality and a genuine interest in others attracted legions of friends throughout her life. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Silverstein and husband, Lou, of Prescott and Barbara Bennett of Prescott Valley. She is also survived by her niece, whom she raised as a daughter, Elayne Karickhoff, and her husband Al, of Odessa, Texas; and by Elayne's children, who knew her as "Grandma," Eric Karickhoff of El Dorado Hills, Calif., and Andrea Wade, of Midland, Texas, and their children, Michaela and Hailey Karickhoff and Austen and Dylan Wade. Her husband preceded her in death in 1966. A gathering of friends will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2006, in the Hampton Funeral Home Drawing Room, 240 S. Cortez St., Prescott. The family wishes to thank the exceptional people who cared for Lucy during this last difficult year, especially Hospice Family Care.
