Lester Matlock was born Dec. 31, 1928 in Lubbock, Texas to William and Nora Matlock, and passed away Jan. 8, 2003.

As an infant, Lester moved with his family, living in various small towns in Southern and Eastern Arizona before settling in Scottsdale in the early 1940's. In early Scottsdale, Lester and his father worked cattle and ranched the area surrounding what is now the Via Linda and Hayden Road intersection. Lester graduated from Scottsdale High School in 1946 and went on to attend Arizona State College (ASU) focusing his studies in Agricultural Sciences, while working as a surveyor for the AZ Highway Dept. Lester later went on to join his father in the real estate business, leaving to join the Arizona Highway Department in 1962. Upon his retirement in 1989, Lester was serving the Highway Dept. as State Manager of the Right of Way Division. Lester was a 35+ year veteran of the Arizona National Guard and a Founding, Charter Member of the Scottsdale Jaycees.

Lester is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Louise Calhoun Matlock, and his equally loving children, Lester (Karla) of Caldwell, Idaho; Lezlee (John) Becker, and Lynda (James) Russell of Peoria; grandchildren, Aubrey Matlock, Corey, Brandee and Kelsee Becker, and James and Jared Russell; sister, Peggy Reddell of Camp Verde, and many adoring nieces and nephews and loving friends.
