Alycia Jeanne (A.J.) Wood

Alycia Jeanne "A.J." Wood passed away October 2, 2004 following a courageous 15-month battle with cancer.

Alycia was born in Phoenix on September 20, 1959.

She graduated from Phoenix Country Day School, Xavier High School and attended Notre Dame University. After Notre Dame, Alycia spent several years in Chicago before returning to Phoenix to work for several prominent law firms and insurance companies. Through her work with Dr. Dietrich at the Heart Institute and as a dedicated volunteer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Phoenix Zoo, Alycia's compassion for others and joy for life were immeasurable. Her one great passion was the opera, and during her illness she enjoyed countless hours listening to her favorite works. She was also an ardent Diamondbacks fan, and supported the team through good and bad times.

Alycia was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Rudolf G. and Alicia Zepeda. She is survived by her devoted mother, Dena Zepeda Wood and her uncle, Rudy H. Zepeda (Leah) of Tucson. She will be dearly missed by her many valley friends and friends across the country. Mrs. Wood would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and friends who have been so supportive these many months.

Rosary was held on Wednesday, October 6th at Hansen Chapel, 8314 N. 7th St. Memorial Mass was on Thursday, October 7th at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 11001 N. 40th St.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 4041 N. Central Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85012 or the Phoenix Zoo, 455 N. Galvin Parkway, Phoenix, AZ, 85008.
