Violetta Hitchens Wilson was born in a small town, Del Rey, in north-central Illinois, October 17, 1911, the 8th of 9 children. When she was 15 years old her father had a heart attack and died. May 1929 she graduated from Piper City High School as Salutatorian of her class. Her sister Anita helped her to attend I.S.N.U. at Normal, Ill. and become a Teacher. While teaching, she helped her youngest brother, Elden, to obtain his college education to become a long-time high school principal. She taught 8 years at Buckley, Ill and 4 years in Phoenix, Az. June 19, 1937, she married Raymond Wilson in the Buckley United Methodist Church. They had 2 daughters, Sally Rae in 1939 and Mary Lee in 1946. They moved from Barrington, Ill. to Phoenix, Az. July 20, 1951. Ray had his own business with Richfield Oil Co. They joined Asbury United Methodist Church, where she has been a member for over 50 years. Survivors include daughters Sally Rae (Bob) Beeson and Mary Lee (Paul) Weiss, 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Visitation was on Sat. 5-29-04 at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary, 719 N. 27th Ave. Phx. Az. Funeral service followed. Published in the Arizona Republic from 5/27/2004 - 5/28/2004. |
