Thelma Grace (Dellbraugge) Elstrod

Thelma Grace Elstrod of Valle Vista was called by her Creator at age 91 on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009. She succumbed to cancer while at home with her husband, Paul, and best friend, Lou Mouser, by her side. Thelma was born Nov. 22, 1917, in Cincinnati to adoptive parents, William and May Dellbraugge. Thelma married Paul Elstrod on Nov. 21, 1962, in Los Angeles.

Thelma was a Master Degree member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. In California, Thelma served in all offices of the sorority. She was president of the Whittier, Calif., area council. Thelma was a board member of the Southern California Council of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She transferred to the Kingman chapter, Laureate Beta Gamma, of Beta Sigma Phi in 1995 and again served in all chapter offices.

Thelma was born in Ohio, moved to California in 1959, and then to Valle Vista in 1994. Before moving to California, she worked for B.F. Goodrich for 19 years in both Ohio and California. Thelma worked for the city of Santa Fe Springs for 23 years before retiring.

Thelma volunteered at the Kingman Academy tutoring reading. She was a member of the Valle Vista Friends of the Library where she volunteered. Thelma was a committee member of the friends of NRA. She was past vice-president of Valle Vista Community Events Committee. Thelma was a member of the Valle Vista Community Church. She was also a member of the Elks Emblem Club in Whittier.

Thelma is survived by her husband, Paul Elstrod; a daughter, Stormee Mihoky; her brother-in-law, John C. Elstrod, and wife, Virginia, and family from Indiana. She had three grandchildren, Sean (Julia) Mihoky, Cory (Jillian) Mihoky and Jessica (Garrett) Sanders. She had four great-grandchildren, Gabriella Delgado, Kain Sanders, Chloe Mihoky and Cameron Mihoky.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Valle Vista Community Church, between mile marker 70 and 71, north on Route 66. Services will be conducted by Pastor Fred French. Following the service, a reception will be held at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Thelma's name to the Valle Vista Community Church, 8620 Cortez Drive, Kingman, AZ 86401.
