George M. Garrett passed away Friday, Aug. 14, 2009. He was born Aug. 6, 1925, in Houston.

He served with honor in the U.S. Navy in WWII and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was proud of that honor.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Jeanne, who along with his step-grandson, James E. Southard, and step-granddaughter, Deborah M. Tarullo, were at his side when he passed. George never called them step-grandchildren; they were his grandchildren.

He is also survived by his step-daughter-in-law, Cynthia M. Southard; and his son, Robert Garrett and wife Athena.

George's stepson, John Southard, predeceased him and I'm sure is waiting to escort George to eternity in peace, pain-free, with a piece of paper in hand.

George quite often found something medical on the computer to print out so he could discuss it with the doctors. Thank you for listening to him, Dr. Matheny, Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Al-Khatib. We will always be grateful.

The memorial service will be held at a later date.
