The Kingman Daily Miner, Kingman, Arizona Friday, August 28, 2009 Charles "Charlie" Edgar Martin, born May 13, 1930, passed Aug. 2, 2009. He was the son of Clayton and Ida Mae Martin of Brighton, Iowa. Raised on a farm with two brothers and two sisters, he lettered in track, football and basketball. He was drafted in 1951. As a Korean War veteran in 1953, he re-applied with the Army Corps of Engineers and was honorably discharged in 1956. With the help of his new wife, Katherine Martin of Ottumwa, Iowa, he enrolled at the University of Arizona. He graduated Bachelor of Civil Engineering, with a major in structural design and hydraulics. With the help of Katherine, by 1960 the family was started. Charlie worked in Tucson and earned his Professional Engineering Stamp, along with his Registered Land Surveying Stamp. By 1967, and with two more children, his company was started, Marco Soils and Foundation Engineering, and later the partnerships of MSG (Martin, Sykes, Grant) Consulting and Marco Contracting of Tucson, Martin Environmental and CE Martin Engineers of Lake Havasu and Kingman. In 1987, Charlie found his life mate in Zoe Kingsley and moved to Lake Havasu. Charlie's lifetime friends were his business associates and co-workers. He maintained lifetime attendance and memberships with the American Society of Civil Engineers, Rotary Club and the Elks Lodge. Charlie never stopped engineering around - he absolutely loved it. Survivors include his second wife of 20 years, Zoe Kingsley Martin; brothers, Paul and Robert of Iowa; children, David and Tim Martin, and Mary Davison; and his grandchildren, Dustin and Mariah Davison. He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Katherine; his parents; and his sisters, Wanda Derby and Ida Long. A celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Fireside Lounge, 1716 Hoover St. off East Andy Devine Ave. in Kingman. |
