Vela F. Brown (January 23, 1912 - September 8, 2008) Vela F. “Peggy” Brown, 96, of Lakeside, passed away Monday, September 8, 2008 at her residence. She was born January 23, 1912, at Black Rock, Arkansas, the eldest of thirteen siblings and the daughter of Thomas and Vertie (Stratton) Robertson. She was raised and attended school at Black Rock. She was married to Cecil Brown on June 22, 1941, at Saint Louis, Missouri. During WWII she worked as a riveter at an aircraft plant in Evansville, Indiana. After the war, she worked at Fedders Corporation in Effingham, Illinois, making appliances. She lived in Louisville, IL for many years. She came to Lakeside thirty-five years ago where she and her husband operated a Whiting gas station for five years. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, and ceramics. She was a member of the Reorganized LDS Church. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Kellums of Goodyear and Ann Ferganchick (Bert) of Tucson; a son, Robert W. Brown (Diane) of Apache Junction; five sisters, one brother and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Wayne Moore, and six brothers. Private services will be observed by the family. A special thanks to the staff of RTA Hospice.
