| (Feb. 19, 1900 - Mar. 1, 1989) Calvin Charles Brown was born February 19, 1900 to Charles Francis and Lydia Jane Brown, in Blue, Graham County, Arizona. He was the first of ten children born to this family. Calvin was always a quiet person who loved his family and never gave them any trouble. Calvin went to work in McNary, Arizona, as a boy. He started out running a tractor, doing labor work, running a skid cat and finally graduated to engineer on the Apache Railway, a job he stayed with the rest of his life. Calvin never worked for any other company. He ran the train from McNary to Holbrook, Arizona and hauled logs from the mountains to the sawmill. Calvin was known for the mournful way he could make that old steam whistle moan. On hearing it as he was getting close to town, people would remark, "here comes old Cal Brown". Calvin and Lona Lovina Hale were married August 18, 1924 in Holbrook, Arizona. They had seven children, two dying as infants. He lived for sometime in McNary and in Snowflake, Arizona. Upon retiring, he moved to Claypool, Arizona, where he finished out his life. He and Lona lived a long 61 years together. She preceded him in death in 1985. He passed away, March 1, 1989 in Claypool and is buried in Mountain Breeze Cemetery by his wife, Lona. (Bio: Nancy E. Brown) See Also: Find A Grave |
