| (June 5, 1906 - Feb. 22, 1985) Jesse Pruitt Brown was born June 5, 1906, to George Pruitt and Adeline Dunn Jackson, in Kelly, Socorro County, New Mexico. His father, Charles Brown, was working at the mines in Kelly hauling ore. When the Brown family returned to Arizona, Jesse went to work for Southwest Lumber Company in McNary, Arizona, firing an old wood fired loader at the age of thirteen years old. It was fired with pine knots. When he was fifteen, he started operating the loader, a job that he stayed with his whole lifetime. He had the distinction of being the youngest loader operator in the United States. He unloaded the log train at the millpond when it came in from the woods. Jesse never had any other job. He married Myrtle Blanche Johnson, February 15, 1926 in Lakeside, Arizona. They had six children, two whom died in infancy. When Jesse retired, he and Blanche moved to Lakeside. Blanche developed heart trouble and passed away in her sleep. Jesse later married another woman, whose surname was Pettis. I don't know what happened to her, but Jesse moved to Holbrook to be with his daughter, Velda. He suffered for several years with severe Alzheimer's disease. Jesse passed away February 22, 1985, and is buried in the Show Low Cemetery, Show Low, Navajo county, Arizona. (Bio: Nancy E. Brown) See Also: Find A Grave |
