Lydia Ella (Brown) Penrod |

(March 22, 1913 - July 3, 2002) Lydia Ella Brown Penrod was born March 22, 1913, in Mogollon, Socorro county, New Mexico. She was the sixth child to join the Charles and Lydia Brown family. Her father was hauling freight from Magdelena, New Mexico to Mogollon for the Little Fanny Mine with teams and wagons. While in Mogollon, there was an earthquake that shook things up pretty good, but I don't think anyone was hurt. Lydia Ella always laughingly said she didn't remember it happening. Lydia Ella married William Liola Penrod or Oley as he was better known and raised seven children. Lydia Ella loved all her children, kept a nice house, and was a good cook, but lived for Saturday night to go to the dances. I don't believe I ever saw anyone who loved to dance as well as she did, unless it was her brother Clyde. This was a trait they inherited from the Jackson side of the family. Lydia Ella's mother and all her brothers loved to dance. I say they inherited it from the Jackson's because poor old Dad Brown couldn't carry a tune or keep step with the music. Ella danced until she was well up in her eighties. Ella was a very jolly person and was always laughing about something. There was a void in the family when Lydia Ella succumbed to cancer. She is buried beside her husband, Oley, in the Lakeside Cemetery, Lakeside, Arizona. May you Rest in Peace. (Bio: Nancy E. Brown) See Also: Find A Grave |
