Thomas (Tom) Petty

Thomas (Tom) Petty, 71, passed away on May 9,2006, at the Las Fuentes Care Center in Prescott. Tom was born Oct. 14, 1934, in Denver, Colo., to Thomas C. and Margie Curtis Petty.

Tom worked on several ranches: Spider Ranch, Cowden Ranch, Thompson Ranch, Long Meadow, Las Vegas Ranch, 7V Ranch and Q's in Young, Ariz. Tom broke horses for Qurrico Rezzonic, and then became a union laborer, worked his way to the Carpenters Union in Prescott, working for Eckel & Allison Construction Company.

Tom retired from the Carpenters Union and went into business for himself.

Tom was known for his leather and rawhide braiding, headstalls, and bosalls.

He was the President of the Williamson Valley School Board for many years.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, T.J. Petty.

Tom is survived by his wife Frances Petty; sons Tom (Denna) Petty of Chino Valley, Joe (Toni) Petty, and Dwayne Petty, all of Prescott; and daughter Anita Petty and son-in-law Tim Ott of Los Alamos, N.M.; and his brother Donny (Glenda) Petty of Prinville, Oregon.

Services will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 13, at Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, corner of Cortez and Cariton streets in Prescott.
