James (Michael) Weller

Posted 2009-10-19 by Pat Wilson
James "Michael" Weller, passed away August 25, 2004 in Jacksonville, Florida, where he was mounting his last valiant battle against liver disease.

Michael lost that battle, but won the war, for as one of His children, God took Michael home to the mansion he had prepared for him to be forever with those who preceded him in death; his father James Henry Weller of Paradise Valley, Arizona, his grandparents; Homer and Lola DeGroat and Buelah Blackwell, his Aunts; Helen McDonald and Pat Barnholdt and Uncle, Art Barnholdt. We are sure all these are gathered for a big card game in Heaven, just as they all played so many games here together here on earth.

Michael was born May 31, 1943 in Portland, Oregon, moved to Fresno, California shortly after and in 1952 made his final move to Phoenix. He attended Scottsdale High School and Arcadia High School where he graduated. He played football all the way through high school and named the whole team, as well as the coaches, his friends. Those dearest to him called him "Mikey" and he leaves behind a long trail of friends. Michael always wanted a family and that evaded him in his younger years, but was never without one of his many beloved pets. "Bart", a big black Bouvier dog was Michaels' inseparable buddy for years. They went everywhere together.

In 1991 Michael met Judy and finally had the family he always wanted. They married in May of 1999 and he became father to Judy's grown daughters, Lisa Watkins and Keely Ludick. Michaels' last years were difficult as he fought many health battles but they were also blessed by the desert home he so enjoyed, the family he loved, laughed with, and played with and of course, all of his furry friends, "the Critters".

Michael is survived by his beloved wife Judy, daughters; Lisa Watkins and Keely Ludick, his mother, Verbalee M. Weller, sisters; Linda L. Weller; Shelley Bjorge and her husband Brian, nephew; Brandon Weller and his wife Jennifer, nieces; Felicia Weller, Brooke Bjorge and Kristin Bjorge, as well as Uncles; Homer De Groat and his wife Jean, George McDonald and his wife Ruby and many cousins. Michaels' family would like to thank the countless number of those who held him continually in their prayers.

Visitation was Sunday August 29th with services Monday August 30th at Messenger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary 8555 E. Pinnacle Peak Road, Scottsdale. Internment will be at Paradise Memorial Gardens.
