The White Mountain Independent Show Low, Arizona 02/17/2006 Benjamin "Red" Hiram Denton died Feb. 11, 2006 in Lakeside. He was born Dec. 27, 1919 in Trinidad, Texas. Every now and then, if we're lucky, we encounter someone who is very one of a kind for their intellect, their talents and their spirit. If we're very lucky we meet maybe a handful of such people in a lifetime. In Ben "Red" Denton we have all, family and friends, been blessed to be in the presence of the, "very one of a kindest" of all. You see, it wasn't simply that Ben loved being in the presence of family and friends, enjoying a beer on a hot afternoon in the front yard more than anyone else. It's that he just simply enjoyed sitting out there quietly, in nature sharing his beer with his favorite dog, "B.J." Ben was always himself. He was the most down to earth person most of us have ever met. It didn't matter what the subject, or who was around, if you didn't like the jokes or stories, you didn't need to listen. We love Ben and will miss him all our lives. We're all happier in our lives because of Ben. He inspired us to enjoy life more and each other. One thing we can all take away from Ben's passing is, to enjoy life, enjoy friends and family, and follow our dreams and never stop following them. Ben's passing is strangely reaffirming because we are acutely aware of the rewards of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, "Grandpa Great,"and friend. God sends very guardian angels. They come in all shapes and sizes and God sent Ben a very special angel to help guide him on his final journey. Her name is "Penny," a small, white bundle of fur who rarely left his side. As Ben neared death, family and friends shared precious moments with him, letting him know that we were with him on his final journey on earth as he anticipated the arrival of the "stagecoach." The loss of Ben will be painful for all of us. Yet it is strangely reaffirming because we are acutely aware of the rewards of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, "Grandpa Great" and friend. A curiosity for life, a hunger for knowledge, a passion for the outdoors, and a sense that anything is possible if you work hard. These are all lifeís riches all lifeís riches that owe little to money and these are Ben's legacy to his family and friends, such wonderful gifts! A celebration of Ben's life will be announced. In lieu of flowers please make contributions in his memory to: RTA Hospice, 1789 W. Commerce Drive, Lakeside, AZ. See Also: Find A Grave |
