The White Mountain Independent Show Low, Arizona December 7, 2005 Charles H. Parkes, 55, died Nov. 30, 2005 after a heart attack. Charlie was born June 5, 1950 in Mesa where he grew up and attended school, graduating from Mesa High School in 1969. He served in the New Zealand South Mission from 1969-1971 for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1972 he married Peggy Ann Kear also of Mesa and they moved to Taylor in 1974. He worked at the Snowflake paper mill for 31 years. He was named Snowflake/Taylor Man of the Year' for his service to the community as a 4-H leader. Charlie was dedicated to his many church callings through the years. He enjoyed serving in the scouting program, as ward dance director, ward recreation and activities chairman and elder's quorum secretary. Charlie's favorite calling and the one he will be remembered for the most, was his eight years of service in the nursery. He truly loved the little children. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Ann Parkes; five children, Cylena do Rego Barros of Mesa, Theresa Willis of Ajo, Keara Mann of Queen Creek, Spencer Howard Parkes of Queen Creek and Carma Parkes of Mesa; his siblings, Sam Parkes, Virgil Parkes, Nephi Parkes, Valoy Chapman and Janie Horstmann, all of Mesa. The pride and joy of his life were his five grandchildren, Allen Hernandez, Kaleb Mann, Rachel Parkes, Kenyon Mann and Ruth Parkes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard O. and Elizabeth Shumway Parkes. Charlie had a talent for making friends with everyone. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held Sat. Dec. 3 in the Taylor Love Lake Chapel, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will follow in the Woodruff Cemetery. See Also: Find A Grave |
