Robert (Bob) S. Helgeson, 78, of Black Canyon City, our Husband, Friend, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather passed away on August 18th after a tough battle with cancer.

Bob was born December 23, 1926 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He moved to Black Canyon City with his wife in 1989 after retiring from their RV business in Seattle. Bob served 53 years as a volunteer fire fighter achieving the highest rank of chief. He most recently served with the Black Canyon City Fire Department.

Bob was very active in his local church, served with Habitat for Humanity, and the Board of Adjustment for Yavapai County Planning and Zoning, was a former president of the BCC Community Association, and was active in the BCC Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Lions Club. He loved to help others and went out of his way to do so.

In years past, Bob along with his wife, published "Canyon Country News," which served the I-17 corridor from New River to Prescott Valley. He enjoyed delivering the paper to local retailers and picking up the latest news along the way. He also stayed active volunteering at the local tourist office in Black Canyon. He was voted Black Canyon City's Citizen of the Year in 2003.

Bob is survived by his wife, Dottie, eight children, nineteen grand children, six great grand children, and brothers, Lewis and John. He touched many lives and will be missed by all, including the many foreign exchange students hosted in his home over the years.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Black Canyon Community Church at 11am Saturday, August 27th with lunch following.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Black Canyon Fire Station Building Fund, Habitat for Humanity, or your local food bank.
