Robert Eugene Smith, 94, was born Dec. 27, 1914, in Harrisburg, Ill. He was one of six children born to William and Cora Smith. Robert passed away on Oct. 18, 2009, surrounded by those who loved and cared for him in Tucson, Ariz.

Robert was a WWII veteran, serving our country for 26 years. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1964, and moved with his family to Prescott, Ariz., in July of the same year. Robert was an active member of Willow Hills First Southern Baptist Church for many years and will be remembered by many.

Friends and family will always enjoy memories of his enthusiasm for bird-watching, camping and picnicking. He was a wonderful husband for his late wife, Edna; they were close, loving companions for almost 30 years.

Robert is preceded in death by his wife Edna; his parents; and all of his siblings. He is survived by his children, Gary (Jeanie) Smith of Tempe, Ariz., Susan (Ric) Surber of Phoenix, Ariz., and Moonyean Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo. He also had several stepchildren and grandchildren who adored and loved him.

A private memorial service for the family has been planned. Dad will be missed greatly, but we know he is in the loving arms of his Lord and Savior; he is at peace.
