Arizona State Miner (Wickenburg) Saturday, March 15, 1924 p1 c4 Harvey E Grant, for the past ten years a resident of Wickenburg and head of the drug business conducted in this city under title of the Wickenburg Drug Company, died on Tuesday at his home here after an illness of several years. He was a young man, only forty years of age, and a rare specimen of human energy that seemed never to tire. Mr Grant was of an unusually active temperament, though a keen physical sufferer. Several years ago an ulcer developed on one of his lungs, and an operation was necessary, followed by several months of bedridden anguish, which his friends noticed affected him greatly, tho his mental faculties never seemed to wane. He never gave up hope and the day before his death arose and sat and ate at his table, after a week's illness in which he was delirious and frequently unconscious. Mr. Grant was a native of Picton, Nova Scotia, and came to Wickenburg primarily for his health finally settling here permanently and marrying one of Wickenburg's popular young matrons, who proved herself a kind and affectionate wife, administering to her ailing husband night and day and assisting him in the responsibilities of the store besides doing her own housework. Besides the bereaved wife and daughter he leaves a father and other relatives in Nova Scotia. Some time previous to his death, the deceased expressed a desire to be cremated after death, and the next day after his demise his sorrowing wife, daughter, and her sisters, accompanied by a few friends escorted the remains to Phoenix. Funeral services were held at the McClellan Chapel after which the sad cortege followed the remains to Greenwood Cemetery, where he was cremated. The business of the Wickenburg Drug Company will be conducted as usual by Mrs Grant with the assistance of Mr Henson, the pharmacist who lately assumed the direction and business management. Condolences of many friends are expressed for the bereaved wife and relatives, in which the State Miner sincerely joins. Arizona State Miner (Wickenburg) Saturday, May 31, 1924 p1 c5 After a long and painful illness, Mr Harvey E. Grant of the Wickenburg Drug Company, Wickenburg, Arizona, passed out on the "long journey." Mr. Grant came to Arizona in search of health and took up his home in Wickenburg, where he married and for years engaged in the Drug Business. He has been ill for several years, and a great sufferer thru the long months, but his bright disposition and cheerful pluck in the face of all this endeared him to all. Mrs Grant, standing by her husband's side thru the hard battle for health, supplementing his efforts in conducting their business, has lived the finest interpretation of wife and helpmate. His going has been very hard on her and we offer her our sincerest sympathy. ---Western Drug Review [dod 11 Mar 1924] |
