Ivan Bishop is Killed in Action

A telegram from the War Department early Tuesday morning, December 5th, brought the sad news to Mrs. Dorothy Bishop , had been killed in the European Theatre of War on November 18th.

Before entering the service last spring he was employed at Clairborne Flight Academy. He was home on furlough in July, going overseas soon after his furlough was over.

Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Mary five years old, and Patricia Ann, who was three years old the day her father was killed. Mrs. Bishop is the former Dorothy Harris, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack W. Harris of Wickenburg.

IVAN BISHOP, WHO FOUGHT AND DIED WITH PATTON'S ARMY, IS COMING HOME TO REST

The body of Pfc. Ivan D. Bishop of Wickenburg, who was killed in action November 18, 1944, while fighting in the streets of Metz with Gen. Patton's third Army, was returned to the United States last week, aboard the army transport Lawrence Victory.

Word to that effect was received by the widow, Mrs Dorothy Bishop, in a telegram from Lt. Col. S. H. Partridge of the U. S. Army at Fort Worth, Tex.

Arrangements are being made at the present time for a full military funeral under the sponsorship of the American Legion, with burial in the Wickenburg Cemetery. The exact date is not yet known; the wire to Mrs Bishop said she would receive 72 hours' notice when the body is sent on to Wickenburg from Fort Worth. The telegram also said there might be a delay of several weeks.

Pfc. Bishop and Mrs Bishop had been residents here four years when he was inducted into the service on February 28, 1944. He was employed at the Claiborne Flight Academy at the time. Following his basic training in this country, he was sent to England where he landed August 24 and four days later went to France as a member of Co. K, 11th Infantry, 5th Division of the Third Army.

Following his death in Metz, on the first day of the street fighting in that French city, he was buried in the U. S. military cemetery in Lorraine, France.

Mr and Mrs Bishop were married in 1938 in Omaha, Neb., and arrived in Wickenburg July 4, 1940. Mrs Bishop is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Jack Harris, also of Wickenburg. She is the mother of two daughters, Lillian Mary, age 8, and Patricia Ann, 6.

BISHOP FUNERAL
LEGION TO CONDUCT SERVICES AT WICKENBURG CEMETERY TODAY AT 4:30

The body of Ivan D. Bishop, killed in action in France during World War II, was to arrive in Wickenburg Thursday morning and funeral services have been set for Friday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. Word of the arrival of the body of her late husband was received by Mrs Dorothy Bishop Wednesday of this week.

Mrs. Bishop informed THE SUN that members of the family and friends will gather at the Wickenburg Chapel and will go from there to the Wickenburg Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by Kellis-Draper Post of the American Legion. There will be no services at the Chapel.
