The Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, Arizona Wednesday, October 28, 2009 Thomas P. Diaz, 96, died on Oct. 23, 2009, at his home in Page, surrounded by his family. He was born Sept. 23, 1913, in Albuquerque, N.M., to Apolinar and Patricia (Padilla) Diaz. Mr. Diaz served in the U.S. Army during World War II. During the Great Depression he worked in the mine at Jerome. He was a member of V.F.W., the American Legion the Painters Union and a Boy Scout leader. Mr. Diaz loved his family and longtime companion Carmen, who he lovingly referred to as "his little flower." He had many friends who adopted him as a father and grandfather. He enjoyed music of all kinds and quiet times alone reading, but most of all his greatest joy in life was having family and friends come to visit his "campito" for happy hour, where numerous life long memories were made and many pictures taken, that will be shared over and over again by all who loved him. He was a mentor and philosopher to all those he came in contact with. His words of wisdom and guidance will be missed by all and carried on through the generations to come. Mr. Diaz is survived by his companion of 34 years, Carmen Christy; daughters Gloria Diaz Macias (David Rodriguez) and Yolanda Lucero (Richard); sons Tommy Diaz (Sylvia), Dickie Diaz (Marguerite) and Freddie Diaz; sisters Lucy Quesada and Lola Lenz (Earl) of California; 17 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia P. Diaz; father Apolinar Diaz; wife Hilaria R. Diaz; brothers Cesar, Moises, Apolinar and Tony; sisters Ino and Marian; daughter Jean D. Montoya; one granddaughter; one grandson; and one great-grandson. Holy Rosary will be recited on Friday at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m., both at St. Piux X Center, 2257 E. Cedar Ave., in Flagstaff. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Zion's Way Hospice, P.O. Box 1015, Page, AZ 86040. Condolences may be sent directly to the family or to condolences@Lozanos-FlagstaffMortuary.com. Lozano's Flagstaff Mortuary is handling the arrangements. |
