The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Saturday, October 31, 2009 Dominic William Salafia, 59, of Prescott Valley, Ariz., passed away at his home under the care of Hospice of the Pines. Dominic was born in Detroit, Mich., on April 4, 1950, to Sebastian and Elsie Salafia. He was a graduate of East Detroit High School. It was as a student at Macomb County Community College that he began an internship with Ford Motors, which resulted in 12 years of employment. During this time, he secured a bachelor's degree in engineering from Wayne State University. Dominic was married to Sheli Hoffman in 1977. Daughter Andrea and son Michael were born to this marriage while living in East Detroit. In 1983, they moved to Phoenix where Dominic began a new career at Garrett Pneumatic Systems Division. He was considered a top-notch employee: loyal, honest, creative and hard-working. Always an eager learner, Dominic secured a master's degree in business administration from Scottsdale Community College. Over the years, the company changed owners and he retired in 1983 after 23 years from Honeywell. Dominic was a hard-working, happy man who loved his time traveling, especially with Sheli. He appreciated his family and friends - especially when he whipped them in some games of cards. His nieces and nephews loved the way Uncle Don teased them. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sheli; children Andrea and Michael; grandson Sebastian; his brother Bill (Nancy); sisters Fran and Ann (Richard); and his nieces and nephews.
