Ernest E. Cross, 81, of Buckeye died Oct. 16, 2004.

Mr. Cross was born May 22, 1923, in Clinton, Okla. He moved to Arizona in 1939, and attended Litchfield High School before entering the Army in 1943 and serving in the European theater. He was discharged from the Army in 1945.

Mr. Cross married Helen Holden in 1943, and between then and 1949, the couple had three sons. In 1949, Mr. Cross and his family moved to Buckeye, where he worked for the town and became a member of the First Southern Baptist Church.

Mr. Cross later worked for the Bechtel Corporation at the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station until his second retirement. He worked as a crossing guard for Buckeye Elementary School for 14 years before his third and final retirement.

Mr. Cross is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen; two sons, David and E.E. “Rusty” Cross, both of Buckeye; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at First Southern Baptist Church, 405 N. Third St. in Buckeye. The Rev. Artie Woodcox will officiate.

Interment will be at Louis B. Hazelton Memorial Park in Buckeye.
