West Valley View, November 16, 2004 James O. Pierce, 63, nationally known aviator and owner of Pierce Aviation in Buckeye, died Nov. 8, 2004, in Yuma. Mr. Pierce was born Aug. 5, 1941, in Buckeye. He attended schools in Buckeye and graduated from Buckeye Union High School in 1958. He then went to work for his father, Paul Pierce, who had started a Buckeye-based aerial application business. When the elder Mr. Pierce died, James Pierce took over the company and expanded it into the well-known and highly regarded firm it is today, with facilities in Yuma and Roll, Ariz. The company has been involved in aerial firefighting operations in Arizona and South America. Mr. Pierce was active in many community affairs, and had served on the governing board of the Buckeye Union High School District. He also was a member of several organizations, including the Agricultural Aviation Association, Western Growers Association, Arizona Farm Bureau and the Yuma County Republican Party. Mr. Pierce is survived by his wife, Miriam, of Yuma; one daughter, Cheryl, of Buckeye; one son, Cody, of Roll; two stepdaughters, Laken and Lacey Grosskreutz of Yuma; his mother, Annabelle Pierce of Buckeye; one sister, Phyllis Pace of Buckeye; two brothers, Boyd and Walter Pierce, both of Buckeye; and four grandchildren. A service was held Nov. 11 at the First Southern Baptist Church in Buckeye. The Rev. Artie Woodcox officiated. Another service and interment took place in Yuma |
