Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ Friday, Aug. 11, 1959 Highway toll mounts; Verne Young killed. The Phoenix Highway claimed its sixth traffic victim of 1950 on Sunday evening when Verne Young, 65-year-old Wittmann resident, was struck by a car and instantly killed. The accident occured at the small bridge on the southeast limits of Wittmann. It was a freak accident which took Mr. Young's life. His Model T Ford sideswiped a Grehound bus. Both vehicles stopped on opposite sides of the highway and Mr. Young was walking across the highway to the bus when a car driven by Mrs. Virginia Lattimore of Phoenix struck him and carried him 183 feet. The body of Mr. Young is being held at the Wickenburg Mortuary while efforts are made to locate members of his family. See Also: Find A Grave |
