The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ February 5, 2003, p. A11 Alice M. (Mahon) Fitzpatrick, 87, died on Saturday morning Feb. 1 at the Greycliff at Cape Ann Nursing home in Gloucester, Mass. She was born in Cedarhurst, N.Y. April 1, 1915, daughter of Irish immigrants, John and Alice (Gilese) Mahon. A devout Catholic and decades-long member of the Third Order of St. Frances, Alice was quietly devoted throughout her life to many activities advancing social justice, peace and service to those in need. While raising her four children in Amityville, N.Y., Alice worked for 30 years as a close assistance to the family medical practice of Dr. William Haydu. Later in life she worked at Wickenburg Hospital in Arizona and served as President of the Business and Professional Women’s Organization. In 1994 Alice moved to Rockport, Mass, to be close with family. Alice loved nature and served for many years as a professional Girl Scout leader. After she retired she rafted down the Colorado River and spent summers working in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National parks. She also had a great love for the Metropolitan Opera, which she attended faithfully for 50 years. For all those who have known Alice, she will be remembered as a woman of great dignity who lived her life with integrity, independence, perseverance and compassion. She is survived by her daughter, Marnee Ballay and her husband Ronald of Wickenburg, Ariz.; her three sons, William Fitzpatrick and his wife Maureen of Whitefish, Mont., John Fitzpatrick and Linda Bjornson of Aromas, Calif., and Richard Fitzpatrick and his wife Caroline of Rockport, Mass.; eleven grandchlidren and 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother; Thomas Mahon of Boyton Beach, Fla. Visiting hours will be held on Monday evening from 4-8 p.m. at the Burgess & Mackey Funeral Home, 201 Main Street, in Rockport. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Joachim’s church at 10 a.m. on Tuesday with interment in the Beech Grove Cemetery, Rockport.
