Man Run Over By His Own Car In Fatal Accident

A freak accident 10 miles east of Wenden last Friday claimed the life of James Lloyd Coffee, 27, of Beaumont, Calif., when he lost control of a motorcycle he was riding and was run over by his own car. Coffee and several other young men were headed east in Coffee's car. Another member of the group was accompanying them on a motorcycle.

According to Highway Patrolman George PEMBERTON, the men stopped at Wenden for refreshments. Coffee asked to ride the motorcycle when they got ready to leave, and Pete JARVIN, 28, Seminole, Texas, took over as driver of Coffee's car.

Tried to pass -

Coffee followed behind his car for some distance and then apparently decided to pass. He lost control of the motorcycle; ran onto the north shoulder of the highway, and then fell under the wheels of his car. He died of head injuries. The other occupants of the car were not injured.
