The Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, Arizona Wednesday, November 04, 2009 Roland J. Grannan Sr., 76, died on Oct. 29, 2009. He was the son of Eva Michelbach and Anthony Grannan. He was born in Chicago, Ill., and moved to Flagstaff at the age of 7. He was a second generation of the pioneer Michelbach family who homesteaded in the area in 1890. He attended Saint Anthony School and Flagstaff High School and upon graduation joined the U.S. Navy. He was an Arizona Korean War Veteran. He graduated from Northern Arizona University and obtained his MBA from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. He was a certified internal auditor. He was a life member of the Flagstaff Elks Lodge 499. Mr. Grannan was a career federal employee. In 1962, he was appointed to the position of United States Postal Inspector. He served various locations in California and Nevada. While in Las Vegas he was assigned to the Federal Organized Crime Task Force. In 1971, he was promoted to the Postal Career Executive Service and served in a number of management positions including Postal Inspector in Charge of the Pittsburgh Division and General Manager, Office of Criminal Investigations, on the staff of the Chief Postal Inspector in Washington, D.C. After 37 years of federal service, he retired in 1983 and returned to Flagstaff where he was involved in property management until he moved to Camp Verde in 2001. Mr. Grannan married Katherine Botleman on Sept 20, 1952, at Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary in Flagstaff. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his extended family members and will be greatly missed. He and his wife were devoted parents and grandparents. He was very proud of his heritage and service to his country for almost 40 years. Mr. Grannan is survived by his children, Roland Jr. (Teresa) of Casper, Wyo., Daniel and Andrew (Janell) Grannan of Flagstaff; and five granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Katherine Grannan who died on Dec. 12, 2008 A Mass will be Saturday at 10 a.m., at Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary Chapel. Graveside service will be at Calvary Catholic cemetery following the church services. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
