The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona 02/10/2006 Kyle Benjamin Bowers, 20, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006 in Show Low. He was born May 17, 1985 in Longview, Texas. Kyle was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy when he was 4 years old. He developed normally in the early years but gradually the muscular degeneration began to show. He was confined to a wheelchair sometime after his ninth birthday but showed a positive attitude and did his best to keep up with his classmates. In 2004, he accomplished one of his first major goals when he graduated with his class having better than average grades. Kyle's second major goal was to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His disability would not allow him to serve the normal two-year full time mission so he served in the LDS employment services for nine months. He was blessed with good friends. Over the years they provided physical, mental and emotional help and encouragement to each other. Kyle was small and fragile, but his mind, heart and spirit were full of life. Though small he left a mighty big footprint. Kyle will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Kyle is survived by his parents, Melville Smith Bowers and Janet Collier Bowers; one brother, Adam Melville (Michele) Bowers of Chandler; four sisters, Samantha Bowers (Smith) Comeaux (Chris) of Tyler, Texas, Angela Bowers (Kenny) Bigler of Mesa, Cheryl Bowers (Brian) Crowder of Show Low and Cyrena Bowers (Matthew) Sexton of Platteville, Wis.; eleven nieces and nephews, Nathan & Callie Smith, Justus, Cheyenne and Victoria Bigler, Felicia, Derric and Dallin Ferguson, Miranda and Clarissa Sexton and Brandon Bowers. Both of his grandmothers also survive him, Fern Collier of Gilmer, Texas and Clovis Bowers of Heber. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 7 at the Heber Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints. Interment was in the Heber Cemetery.
