The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona 04/06/2007 Thomas "Tom" Davis, 83, of Overgaard died Saturday, March 31, 2007, in Winslow. Tom was born July 27, 1923, in Omaha, Neb., the son of Charles and Bertha (Jahn) Davis. He was raised and attended school in Columbus and Scottsbluff, Neb., graduating from Scottsbluff High School in 1942. Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps and was a World War II veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater. He later served in the reserve and back to active duty during the Korean Conflict. He was married to Josephine Hajek June 14, 1952, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sydney, NE. He worked in the clothes cleaning business in Scottsbluff, and later lived in Wenatchee, Wash., where he worked for Montgomery Ward. He moved to Mesa in 1960, where he operated Tom's Carpets. He retired and moved to Overgaard in 1988. He loved playing poker, the lottery and golf at his home in Pine Meadows Golf Club. He was a member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 86 of Overgaard. Survivors include his wife, Josephine of the home; son John Davis of Overgaard; sister Virginia Ferguson of Scottsbluff, Neb.; two brothers, Merlyn (Evelyn) Davis of Scottsbluff, Neb. and Jerome (Hennrietta) Davis of Lincoln, Neb. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 11, at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Overgaard. A Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 10, at the church. Burial, with military honors performed by American Legion Post 86 of Overgaard will be at Heber Cemetery.
