Emilio Villa Sr., 94, passed away at a Mesa residence on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009. He was born in San Lorenzo, New Mexico, on Aug. 7, 1915. Young Emilio never had formal schooling, but was self-taught, well-read and possessed excellent penmanship. He fought in the Second World War in the U.S. Army, earning the Purple Heart. For 40 years Mr. Villa was a silicate operator at Kennecott Copper. He taught his children good morals and correct principles, with special training in tasks like making tortillas and sewing with patience. He liked to work in the yard and fix thing, like radios and equipment. Mr. Villa is survived by his wife, Eliza V. Villa of Mesa; daughters, Teresa Alvarado of Kearny and Olga Villalobos of Mesa; son, Emilio Villa Jr. of Murrieta, California; 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Services will be held on Friday, Aug. 28 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. The viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the Rosary recitation at 10 a.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
