Copper Basin News 11/11/09 Carmelita C. Hart, affectionately known as “Bebee,” passed away Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Mt. View Care Center in Tucson. Born in Hayden on July 30, 1936 to Manuel M. and Artemisa Romero Contreras, she was a lifetime resident of Hayden. Carmen was the head secretary for Kennecott Copper Corporation and ASARCO for 36 years before retiring. She was also a member of the Professional Secretaries Organization. For 16 years, she served as Mayor of Hayden. She graduated from Gila Community College in Globe and later taught computer classes for the Eastern Arizona College extension in Hayden. With her love for learning, she also learned sign language. For a number of years she made and decorated many beautiful wedding cakes. Carmen had a beautiful voice and loved singing and music. For a while, in the 1970s, she had a band. She leaves behind her mother, Artie Contreras of Hayden; sisters, Sally and Chris Contreras, both of Hayden; stepson, William M. Hart of Oracle; two step-granddaughters, four nieces, six nephews as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Hart, and father, Manuel M. Contreras. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kearny with Bishop Brad Baker officiating. Interment followed at Mountain View Cemetery in Hayden. |
