Merced (CA) Sun-Star Sunday, October 22, 2006 Virginia LaVonne Halcom May 21, 1922-October 20, 2006 Virginia was born in Nuckolls County, Nebraska on May 21, 1922. She was educated in country schools until the age of twelve, and then she received her education in city schools at Superior, Nebraska. She was married to James Halcom an Air Force career officer who preceded her in death in 1970. During their travels she worked as a volunteer as a Red Cross Gray Lady, also as a volunteer in Family Services on various military installations. After coming with her husband to Atwater in 1967, she held offices in Atwater Senior Social Club and Winton Senior Social Club. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, ceramics, reading and music. She was preceded in death by her husband James Halcom. She had one lovely daughter, Jannette Shelton of Black Canyon City, AZ. Visitation will be Monday October 23, 2006 from 2pm to 7pm at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home. Graveside services at Merced District Cemetery on Tuesday October 24, 2006 at 1pm. Services are under the direction of Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home. |
